Artist Statement – Florilegium (frico)

This series of graphite rubbings entitled Florilegium (frico) evoke a technique often used in the scientific discipline of Paleobotany to record botanical fossil specimens. Frico is the Latin verb for “rub”. Like the botanical watercolour, it is another scientific method of recording the natural world.
